Zakat Donation Kosovo:
One of the best ways you can support people in need in Kosovo is by donating your Zakat payment to Ummah Relief International. The wars in the Balkans during the 1990s had a devastating impact on Muslims living in Kosovo. Following acts of genocide in Bosnia, where 80,000 Muslims were slaughtered, many in Kosovo rebelled against Serbian rule. Their fight for justice provoked the then Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic to embark on a crusade of ethnic cleansing. Thousands of Muslims died and hundreds of thousands were forced to flee.
Refugees Still Rebuilding Their Lives:
More than 600,000 people were forced to flee Kosovo and seek refuge in neighboring countries, as well as further afield. It is reported that at least another 400,000 were displaced inside Kosovo during the war. Refugee camps aimed to relocate 1,500 Kosovars a day, such was the scale of the exodus. Homeless and with no where to go, the refugees were at the mercy of foreign governments who quibbled over numbers. Many families were split up. Not only had they lost their homes, they had lost each other.
Life On Hold:
Of those who were relocated, many were viewed as asylum seekers and forced to live in poverty. To this day, some face an uncertain future – never knowing if they will be taken away from the new life they have established and deported. Although Kosovo itself is one of the newest countries in the world – and the only Muslim state in Europe – humanitarian aid is still needed, both there and for those who fled.
Your Zakat Donation Will Change Lives:
A Zakat payment, made once a year under Islamic law, is used for charity and religious purposes. As a non profit charity dedicated to helping Muslims in need, Ummah Relief International is a great channel to show your support for humanitarian work in Kosovo. A small amount of what you have saved over the past year could go a long way to preserving human life and giving people stricken by poverty a chance to build a future.
