Formerly East Pakistan:
Formerly East Pakistan, Bangladesh is one of the most densely populated countries in the world. It is also one of the poorest. It has a population in excess of 152 million, and has suffered drought, floods and famine. Around 36 per cent of the population in rural areas live below the poverty line. Malnutrition in children is as high as 48 per cent. A donation to Ummah Relief International will help us deliver fresh Qurbani meat during Eid-al-Adha.
Millions Live in Poverty:
More than 40 million people in Bangladesh live in poverty. Many of those are destitute. Finding enough food to survive is a daily struggle. Famine, floods and drought have brought the country to its knees more than once. With 80 per cent of the population living in rural areas, services are difficult to access and, in many areas, are non-existent.
Lifting Bangladesh Out of Poverty:
Poverty levels are reported to be falling by around one per cent a year in Bangladesh. Humanitarian aid and other measures have had a positive impact. However, due to the country’s geographical traits, Bangladesh is prone to natural disasters. Meat and food distribution, along with clean water and medical aid is desperately required.
How You Can Help URI:
Support Ummah Relief International’s work in Mali with Qurbani donation.
During the month of Dhul Hijjah, Muslims around the world slaughter an animal to honor Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son for the sake of God. This sacrifice is known as Qurbani. It is an important and integral part of Islam, and one every Muslim aims to support. According to tradition, at least one third of the meat from the slaughtered animal must go to poor or vulnerable people. One third of the meat can be kept for the family of the person who has slaughtered the animal and the final third is given to their neighbors.
The Festival of Sacrifice, Eid-al-Adha, is celebrated during Dhul Hijah. It begins on the tenth day and ends on the thirteenth. A donation to Ummah Relief International’s Qurbani Udhiya Program will ensure that fresh Qurbani meat can be distributed to the poor who would otherwise be excluded from this important tradition.
